Nursing students carry more than backpacks between clinicals, coursework, and care responsibilities — they carry futures, including their own. And while National Nurses Week often celebrates those already in the field, it’s also a moment to uplift those preparing to join its ranks. This year, we’re shining a spotlight on the students and educators putting in the work behind the scenes — and our instructor-led Nursing Success Scholarships that are helping to lighten their load.
Nurses Put the Heart in Heart Monitoring — and So Much More
National Nurses Week is a time to honor those who care when no one else can — and step in when others step out. It’s a tribute to the courage, compassion, and sacrifice of frontline workers clocking 12-hour shifts to administer meds, perform wound care, and offer a steady, sympathetic presence at the bedside when it’s needed most. But let’s not forget the future nurses still in the thick of their studies. They’re working tirelessly today to be ready for tomorrow.
These students are putting themselves last. They handle the heavy lift of school, work, bills, caregiving, and relentless expectations while striving toward a demanding yet meaningful career.
And behind many of them? Dedicated nurse educators who also put themselves last. They do everything possible to reach a truly noble goal: helping their students succeed in the classroom and beyond.
Nursing School Is Hard — We Understand Why
The difficulties of nursing school don’t stop at academics alone. As many students can attest, it’s emotionally, physically, and financially draining. From the cost of tuition, equipment, and lab fees to balancing jobs and family care, the barriers to success aren’t always found in the curriculum.
Educators also feel the burden. Day after day, nurses-turned-teachers juggle lesson planning, clinical coordination, mentorship, remediation, and student support. In fact, recent studies have shown that the workload contributes to the overall nursing shortage1.
Despite these challenges, some educators are discovering new ways forward. They’re reimagining how they support students — academically, emotionally, and practically. Among them is Dr. Katie Beres of the University of Michigan-Flint. Her success story proves that the right tools, paired with the right support, can change the trajectory of an entire class.
Turning Struggle Into Strategy
Dr. Beres, clinical assistant professor at UM-Flint, knows the stakes firsthand. Her students struggled with critical thinking and clinical judgment as they prepared for the NCLEX-RN®. Test anxiety, complex question types, and inconsistent study habits threatened their progress.
So, what did Dr. Beres do? She turned to us, and we piloted an instructor-led product scholarship distribution program at the university. In coordination with her, we granted 5 product scholarships to students in her classroom. So far, 3 of those nursing students have taken the NCLEX — and passed.
That success led Dr. Beres to integrate our learning platform into her synthesis course. She has created an environment that promotes confidence, accountability, and real growth. The winning formula is a combination of QBank practice questions, custom quizzes, and review videos.
“We went from an 88% to a 93% pass rate with our last NCLEX® report!”
— Dr. Katie Beres, clinical assistant professor at University of Michigan-Flint
Dr. Beres noted that, most importantly, students began to believe in themselves. They stopped second-guessing, studied smarter, and passed the NCLEX.
Stories like this remind us why we do what we do. We work hard every day to help others achieve excellence in their pursuit of higher education and rewarding careers. It’s beyond rewarding to support students and educators with test prep tools that make a difference.
