Our Story
Like many great adventures, UWorld was started in a dorm room. In 2001, during his medical residency, UWorld founder and CEO, Dr. Chandra Pemmasani, recognized the need for better study materials for the US Medical Licensing Exam. Frustrated by the poor quality and high costs of available resources, he crafted 250 high-quality, case-based questions. Initially aiming to publish them as a book, he instead shared his work in online forums. The enthusiastic feedback and demand for more led him to enlist the help of his brother and a roommate, both graduate students at Virginia Tech University. This collaboration marked the inception of USMLE World, which would later be renamed as UWorld.
UWorld began as a solution to a common problem—inadequate study materials. From our modest start in a dorm room to becoming the go-to resource for over a million nurses, our journey has been driven by a commitment to excellence and a deep understanding of our students' needs.
